100 years of history developing & investing in amersham and the Western Home Counties

a brief History

Leywood Estates and Lexham Properties were founded by Alfred Woodley (1887-1950) who, starting as a local sanitary engineer, went on to become one of the most prolific builders in Amersham during the 1920s and 1930s. He built many of the shops and houses in the surrounding area after a surge in demand due to new links into Central London created by development of the Metropolitan Railway. He was succeeded by his son, Alfred 'Dick' Woodley, and subsequently his grandson, Alfred 'Jim' Woodley. Simon Funnell now manages both Leywood Estates and Lexham Properties, which are respectively chaired by the founder's granddaughters, Linda Watson and Susan Queenborough.
